Editor and publisher: Michael Lindenberger. Michael Lindenberger (@borubonstory) founded Bourbon Story Magazine to tell stories about the business of bourbon, and its heritage, its hype and its hope, in a way that no one else is. He spent a year at Stanford University as a 2013 John S. Knight Journalism Fellow, where he came to believe that the audience in a publication's most important product and that readers respond to stories because humans rely on story to understand their lives. This magazine is the culmination of those insights.
Michael is a Louisville native who has written extensively about bourbon, about Hunter S. Thompson, the Kentucky Derby, and, occasionally, basketball. He's also a Washington correspondent for the The Dallas Morning News and a long-time legal affairs contributor to TIME. Send ideas, complaints and encouragements to email@example.com.
Chicago Editor: Dr. Allen Helm. Allen Helm (@bourbonstoryal) is Chicago editor of Bourbon Story Magazine. Helm's passion for — and knowledge of — bourbon comes naturally, as he was born and raised in Louisville, in the heart of bourbon country. He studied biotechnology at the University of Louisville and got his doctorate in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His work for Bourbon Story brings a rare mix of a scientist’s understanding of the processes behind whiskey and a fan’s long experience to help render those insights useful to readers.
He lives in Chicago where he works in biological safety at the University of Chicago. When he's not working with people who deal with pathogens on a daily basis he enjoys visiting the pubs, dives, and music venues that make Chicago a city of neighborhoods. By talking with people on both sides of the bar he brings a variety of insights about bourbon and bourbon culture to Bourbon Story’s readers. Email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Colorado Editor: Hudson Lindenberger. Colorado editor Hudson Lindenberger (@hlindenberger) is Bourbon Story Magazine’s Colorado editor, and focuses especially on the vibrant innovation craft distillers are bringing to the Rocky Mountain region. More than 40 micro distilleries have opened in Colorado and more are on their way. He'll bring smarts and reporting from the wild west of the whiskey-making industry.
Hudson is a native Kentuckian living in Boulder who has written extensively on beer, wine, and adventure. He spent 12 years in the restaurant industry and eight more in the alcohol industry, and now brings an insider’s connections and knowledge to Bourbon Story. Email him at email@example.com.
Kentucky Editor: Kevin Hyde. Kevin R. Hyde (@kevinrhyde) reports from the heart of Bourbon country, focusing on the business of the flagship distilleries in Kentucky. He’ll also be watching the big bets officials in Louisville and in the state's capital, Frankfort, have placed on bourbon as the premier tourism draw.
A graduate of Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, he has worked as a reporter for daily and weekly newspapers, edited regional and national magazines, written on pop culture for an international newspaper as well as several local, alternative newspapers. He was the long-time editor of UofL magazine, the official publication of the University of Louisville.
A runner, reader, film buff, amateur songwriter and bourbon appreciator, he lives in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville, Ky., with his wife and two young daughters.
Texas Editor: Angela Shah. Angela Shah has written about innovators across the globe, from Austin's “change-the-world” techies to young Afghan women defying cultural norms to rebuild their war-torn country. She’s a University of Texas graduate and a Knight-Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan. With a palette honed over a lifetime of traveling, and a business writer’s eye for innovation and the bottom line, Angela will be Bourbon Story’s presence in Texas, where distillers and drinkers alike are creating a burgeoning whiskey industry.
